With hundreds of miles of trails for public use, there’s a plethora of outdoor attractions to discover and explore in Chautauqua County, NY, regardless of the season. This abundance of trails and activities give Chautauqua County residents an opportunity to make outdoor recreation and lifelong pursuit!
To help celebrate and focus on our trails, a group of local public and private organizations have banded together to form the Friends of the Chautauqua County Greenways (FCCG) to combine resources and identify ways to improve and enhance these invaluable outdoor resources! The FCCG has made great strides in recent years to not only improve trails, but also help promote them! This includes the recently launched Chautauqua County Interactive Trails Map, which allows residents and visitors to find all public trails in the county, regardless of their intended use!
Also in June 2025, the FCCG developed the inaugural CHQ Trails Day event – a day to promote and celebrate our 250+ miles of trails with a series of free events open to the public!
“This event will showcase the county’s amazing trail networks and will give outdoor enthusiasts a chance to make new connections with individual trail groups and with others who are passionate about the outdoors,” said Jacob Bodway, Trail Coordinator for the Chautauqua County Partnership for Economic Growth and advisory board member of FCCG. “It’s going to be a day unlike any other for celebrating our county’s beautiful natural resources, and it is a tradition that we hope will continue for years to come!”
“We have such incredible outdoor recreation assets, including more than 600 miles of recreational trails which we are actively working to improve,” said Mark Geise, Deputy Chautauqua County Executive for Economic Development. “The Interactive Trails Map project, along with the CHQ Trails Day event, not only help our county market itself as a tourism destination for outdoor enthusiasts, but help our current and prospective residents discover all we have to offer!”
